Barack Obama’s National Alchemy
I was going to write something longer about Gary Kamiya’s newest piece on Salon, but I can’t. Just go read it.
And while you’re at it, check out this piece at Group News Blog (which, again, I found through C&L) that deconstructs the Dem “Big Three” by their use of language. Fascinating.
Kamiya’s piece is pure hagiography, no critical thinking allowed. In case you think Obama can be trusted with the world’s largest war machine, refer to http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/27/AR2007042702027.html his statements about “pre-emptive war”. I interpret them as a statement of intent to violate the principles of the Nuremberg charter, and title 18 of the US code, to commit crimes against peace. This is consistent with the sources of his funding, viz. Wall Street and AIPAC.
For a real hope, a real change, I support Kucinich, Edwards on the democratic side, in that order of preference — Edwards does not understand civil liberties or constitutional law, only raw power, but at least he is actually on the side of the American people. On the Republican side there is only one hope, and that is Ron Paul.
Damn you all and your “serious” bloggings!!
Here’s a little BBC awesomeness fo yo ass…

I’m Clive Owen, that’s mental!!
The piece is a little congratulatory, isn’t it? It’s hard to have endured the past seven years of this administration and not go a little bananas with excitement at what could be. I think Kamiya’s absolutely right.
But seriously. Robert Kagan? You’re really going to trot out a co-founder of the Project for the New American Century and talk about Obama’s “intent to…commit crimes against peace?”
At best, you (and Kagan) misunderstand his words about how America should go about influencing the actions of other nations. At worst, it’s a pretty serious instance of Freudian projection.
I’m not sure “brazen” really covers it. “Unhinged,” perhaps. It’s honestly mystifying to me how you can think this way.
Of course, then you mention Ron Paul as our only hope. Now I get it.
Seek help.
